Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Giving Machine?

Short answer: a vending machine where you can gift a specific item to a charitable organization.

Longer answer: a Giving Machine is a vending machine that is all about the experience of giving instead of buying something to satisfy your own immediate need. You can buy chickens or goats to help families around the world or meals at a local food bank. Items start at $5 and go up to $250, so everyone can have the experience of giving on any budget. After inserting a credit or debit card or tapping digital payment (no cash), a card with a picture of your item drops into a collection bin and you walk away with a digital receipt and a smile for days.

Where does my donation go?

One hundred percent of your donation will be used for the purchased item, similar items, or services of greater need as determined by the applicable charitable organization. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints covers all costs associated with The Giving Machine including credit card transaction fees.

When will the Giving Machine be available?

The Giving Machines are a seasonal experience that runs during the holiday season as part of #LightTheWorld. The Giving Machine will be outside Central Presbyterian Church, 70 Maple Street in Summit, NJ from Saturday, November 14th through Sunday, December 6th. Visitors will have continuous access to the Giving Machine during that time.

Can I donate online?

You cannot make an online donation to the Giving Machine. Individuals are encouraged to visit the Giving Machine to have the tactile experience of giving and sharing that experience with family and friends. However, you can make a donation online directly to the organizations participating in this years program by visiting their individual websites. All your donations help #LightTheWorld and bring hope to those who need it most.

What methods of payment are accepted at the giving machine?

Giving Machines accept credit card and mobile payments (Apple Pay, Google Pay, etc.). They do not accept cash.

Is my donation tax deductible?

Donations are eligible for tax deductions. Electronic receipts will be available by text or email.
